Mudgee street to close for filming of television drama
Mudgee’s popular café strip was transformed into a film set yesterday with Market Street closed to traffic for the filming of Channel Nine’s new mini-series Doctor Doctor.
Mudgee Newsagency was converted to a pharmacy as star of the ten-part series Rodger Corser and co-star Ryan Johnson filmed scenes in the Town Hall Arcade.
Nearby café operators conceded that while trade had been slower than usual during the half-day street closure they were happy to have the crew in town.
“It’s just something you’ve got to do, it doesn’t bother us,” one operator said.
“A few of the crew have come in today for coffees and have been more than helpful.”
The drama comedy follows egotistical heart surgeon Hugh Knight (Corser) who has lived too much of the high life and is struck off, forced to return to his country home town to work as a GP.
Crews will be filming at various locations around Mudgee until Wednesday (May 18) with traffic controls in place at times.
The newsagency is one of several local businesses taking part in filming with a number of residents also cast as extras.
Mudgee’s landmark buildings and streetscapes, including Market and Perry Streets, and the Town Hall building, will feature in the series to be aired on Channel Nine.
The production is expected to bring a significant economic injection to town.
