    New Mudgee Hospital plans examined
Judy Blackman (local health council), Judith Ford (local health services manager), Joel Wilson, and Joe Sullivan check out the plans.

The Community Pop Up Site displaying draft plans for the $70.2 million Mudgee Hospital Redevelopment was flooded with members of the public during its two-day exhibition on Friday and Saturday.

The project is in the early stages of a detailed planning process, with the Schematic Design (the general layout, look and feel) for the redevelopment released this month.

“”There is clearly great interest in the new Mudgee Hospital and the community is very supportive of the project.”

Project staff were onsite to take questions and provide information on those designs.

By lunchtime on Friday they had already seen around 80 visitors through the doors of the Church Street shopfront.

A Health Infrastructure spokesperson said after the Saturday morning session the display had seen hundreds of visitors.

“The project team would like to thank the local community for taking the time to come in, view the plans and discuss the project with our team,” the spokesperson said.

“The exhibition was a great success with well over two-hundred people dropping in over the two day event.

“Visitors included people from Mudgee and surrounding communities; current and former staff and patients; and members of the Mudgee Local Health Council.

“People provided feedback on a variety of issues including design, parking, heritage, services and future growth.

“There is clearly great interest in the new Mudgee Hospital and the community is very supportive of the project. Comments and feedback from the local community will be carefully considered as we proceed in the detailed design phase of the project.”

Early works are expected to start on the site in the middle of the year, with construction of the new building scheduled to commence at the end of 2018.

Have your say on draft plans

Even though the Community Pop Up Site displaying the Mudgee Hospital Redevelopment draft has closed, the plans can still be viewed and feedback is still sought.

The schematic designs will remain on display until May 10, in the windows 17/19-41 Church Street, Mudgee, next door to the Commonwealth Bank. They can also be viewed online at wnswlhd.health.nsw.gov.au

With brochures and feedback forms available at the hospital and submissions also accepted via email WNSWLHD-Mudgee-Redevelopment@health.nsw.gov.au.

Any useful suggestions will be incorporated into the plans as the project heads towards its ‘detailed design’ phase.

Community groups can also book talks online for a Western NSW LHD representative to come and give a presentation on the redevelopment.

On a poll run on mudgeeguardian.com.au over the weekend saw around 70 per cent of responders answer ‘yes’ to ‘do you like the plans for the new Mudgee Hospital?’
