Mudgee is set for an even better sports complex following the Coalition Government’s announcement to provide funding for stage two of the Glen Willow Regional Sports Complex project.
Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee said the project would receive $6.95 million from the Federal Coalition Government under the Building Better Regions Fund –Infrastructure Projects stream.
“This is a fantastic outcome for players and sports fans in the Mudgee community – with the major boost in capacity at the Glen Willow complex expected to attract more and larger sporting events and increase participation,” Mr Gee said.
“Expansion plans include six additional playing fields, two new amenity blocks, additional car parking for 170 vehicles and lighting towers for all fields installed.
“The project is also expected to create 28 jobs during construction and 36 ongoing jobs in the community – which will have major flow-on benefits across the local economy.”
Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the project will deliver significant economic and social benefits to the community.
“Under round two of the Building Better Regions Fund – Infrastructure Projects stream, the Coalition Government is investing well over $200 million in 136 projects with a total project value of $459 million,” Dr McVeigh said.
“This means, in each successful community much anticipated local projects are receiving the funds needed to take a big idea and make it a reality.
“It’s all part of the Coalition Government’s plan to create more jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities across Australia.
“A further $200 million was announced in the 2018 Budget for a third round of the Building Better Regions Fund – a clear indication of the Coalition Government’s commitment to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.”
The second round of the Building Better Regions Fund, which includes the Community Investment stream and the Infrastructure Projects stream, is expected to create up to 10,000 jobs from over 240 projects.
This comes less than two weeks after Mr Gee made a public announcement urging the government to pump funds into Glen Willow, labelling it as the gold standard for regional sporting venues and an excellent tourist attraction.
