The NSW Minerals Council’s latest Expenditure Survey found mining continues to be a major contributor to Mudgee and the Mid-Western region. More than 200 mining jobs were created locally between 2013 and 2014.

Total local spending comprised of $170.2 million in wages and salaries; and $150 million in purchases among 297 Mid-Western Regional businesses. This doesn’t include community contributions and payments to local government.

However the number of business in the local mining supply chain has fallen from 360 in 2012-13 to 297 in 2013-14.

“While spending with local businesses is down, mining’s contribution to the Mudgee economy remains strong, with more mining jobs created over the last 12 months,” NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said.
